Ayatollah Khomeini

Ayatollah Khomeini (1902-1989), often known in the West simply as ‘The Ayatollah’, was a Shi‘ah Muslim reli- gious authority, wrote numerous books, and founded the modern-day Islamic Republic of Iran. He was born in the Iranian city of Khumayn and is buried in a mausoleum to the south of Tehran.
