Discover the epic story of the Sikh Empire with Priya Atwal as she investigates the spectacular rise and fall of this legendary long-lost kingdom.

Description

In late 18th-century India, the glory of the once formidable Mughal emperors was fading. Maharajah Ranjit Singh seized power and built an empire that stretched through north-western India into Afghanistan and Tibet.

Join Priya Atwal as she looks beyond the legendary founding father of the Sikh Empire and considers the role that the queens and princes played in its spectacular rise and fall. She will bring to life the self-made ruling family who inventively fused Sikh, Mughal and European ideas of power in the midst of a dramatic global era where new stars rose and upstart empires clashed.

Priya Atwal is a historian of empire, monarchy and cultural politics across Britain and South Asia. She has taught History at King’s College London and Oxford University, where she obtained her doctorate.
